July 2008 | |
|---|---|---|
I will be in San Diego to host a meet-and-greet-the-artist event aboard the Star of India on August 22nd. Making the perfect entry for a nautical photographer, I'll arrive in San Diego aboard the Coast Guard barque Eagle just in time for the Tall Ship Festival parade of sail, after spending four days sailing down the California coast. |

I'm sailing from the Canary Islands to St. Lucia on a Hylas 54 named L'ame Libre, one of the few American boats to join the Transatlantic ARC Rally. On November 25th, 242 boats hit the starting line for the trade wind run to St. Lucia. Follow the weather and fleet positions on the official web site http://www.worldcruising.net/.%5Carcviewer.asp?eventid=1 or click on the link below to follow L'ame Libre's track across the Atlantic. |

San Diego Tall Ship Sail |
November 2007 | |
|---|---|---|
A couple weeks after the Great Schooner Race I visited San Diego to photograph the Maritime Museum's annual tall ship sail. We were not blessed with the strong winds that we had for the Great Schooner Race but the Star of India, HMS Surprise and the California are beautiful boats so I was able to take some lovely photographs that will be shown in the Portrait of Tall Ships Exhibit next summer. |

Great Chesapeake Bay Schooner Race |
October 2007 | |
|---|---|---|
October and November were busy months. I returned to my old cruising waters to photograph the Great Chesapeake Bay Schooner Race: 40 large and small schooners racing from Annapolis, MD to Norfolk, VA. A front came through, breaking a late season heat wave, the day before the start and blew the fleet down the bay at a record setting pace giving me a rare opportunity to photograph Pride of Baltimore II, Virginia and Gazela reaching down the bay at over 10 knots. |
